Meme

This has been bothering me for a while...whenever I run into another person and mention 'memes' they always pronounce it differently. I've gotten 'meemee' 'mem' and other such things.

Correct pronunciation of "meme"?

From Dictionary.com:

meme
[meem] Show IPAnoun: a cultural item that is transmitted by repetition in a manner analogous to the biological transmission of genes.

So, there you have it...next time you are talking about the world of the internet and you don't want to sound like an idiot...say 'meem'.

NES

So, like I said, my boyfriend got me an NES for Christmas <3
I've been searching the dark depths of the internet for games. I would not go with online stores as their prices can be astronomical and I don't want to pay for shipping
I don't trust Ebay...
I've tried Craigslist and found a bunch of games for sale, but either they are selling them for more than I'd want to pay or trying to sell 40 games at once....
So..yeah.
I've found some people who I'm considering contacting to see if I can get a deal out of them for buying multiple games from them.
My boyfriend insists that I get a hard drive full of games to plug into the cartridge slot... I've looked but I don't think they even exist.
Games I'm currently searching for:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II
The Legend of Zelda
Super Mario Bros. 2/3 (I've never played 2)
Kirby's Adventure (I absolutely love this game..but can't seem to find it anywhere :( )
Paperboy (I actually hate this game, but I want to have it for memories of my childhood frustration...lol)
Mega Man (which one? I don't know, I've heard they're decent games though)
Final Fantasy (I've also never played this one because no one with an NES had this game)

I'm sure there are others..just none I can think of off the top of my head

When summer comes around I'll be checking ALL the garage sales!!

Nativity

Just the 'Precious Moments' nativity Scene... it's probably as old as me. I set this little thing up every year.. Merry Christmas~
Enjoy the birth of Jesus with these little guys

Christmas Eve~ ♥

Today is Christmas Eve! it's actually starting to feel like Christmas. It's still hard to believe though...maybe it's because we don't have any snow..
:(

So, after coming home from the Christmas Eve service at church we had my boyfriend and his family over for dinner, which was nice~
Me and him exchanged gifts because he brought mine, so why not! I got him a backpack and he got me an NES. I'm probably one of the few girls that I can think of that would want something like that for Christmas. Hahahaha. I'm probably going to steal one of the small flatscreen TVs that we have randomly around the house and put it in my room so I can play my NES and Sega Genesis :P
Earlier today my family exchanged our Secret Santa gifts. There are five of us, and I had my mom, so I got her some Bath and Body Works stuff.
My dad had me and he got me a hamster :D Actually, "hamster" was the only thing I had on my xmas wishlist XD
He's a little 'panda hamster', and I haven't given him a name yet. He needs a T name...that's just a thing we do.. name all of our pets with T names.
So, I was thinking of Thor, Toby (Tobias), Taro, Tiberius, Tuxedo....etc. He's black and white, with a black lighning bolt shape on his back.
I'm sure I'll put a picture of him up at some point... let's just hope my cats don't eat him before that!

MERRY CHRISTSMAS

and here's a stolen ASCII Christmas Tree~

Christmas Time

To me it doesn't really feel like Christmas yet...which is interesting since it's in like three days. Maybe it's because  my Christmas tree is in a different room than I'm used to. We have three pets that are all under a year old and we didn't want them to destroy it XD
I haven't wrapped any presents yet.

I'm actually not a big Xmas person. I mean, there's nothing wrong with liking Christmas! I mean, being christian I celebrate the birth of Jesus and all that. I'm just not an overly-festive person. I won't sneer at people to say Merry Chrstmas to me, hardly, I say it to people too. It's just that I don't like listening to the same songs fifty-billion times again, I don't really want to watch all twelve of those movies again. I don't know. I'm just not a huge Chrstmas fan. :P
Sorry if you absolutely adore Christmas! That's totally fine, I'll just leave that to you, I'll be over here.... having a little less enthusiasm.

Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, even though he was actually supposed to have been born some time in the Spring. It doesn't really matter, it's just a day that was picked to celebrate it.
Christmas was a celebration of the Winter Solstice before it was used as the day to celebrate the birth of Christ. (I think. Don't take my word on that one..)
Christmas is (apparently) the day Isaac Newton was born! I really hope you know who that is...

If there are other random things that happen around here, I'll mention them later.

Merry Christmas~~!

My Highschool - Video Wars

I have graduated highschool already, but when I did attend I went to WGSS. Whooooo Gators!
The teachers and students have wars in various things and try to beat the other at whatever it may be. We had student-teacher basketball games, dodge ball games, and various things like that.
More recently, the students did a LipDub. If you don't know what a lipdub is then go search them up on Youtube. Basically, it's a bunch of people lip-syncing to songs and showing school spirit and such. I don't know if all lipdubs are done by school necessarily, but a lot of them are.

But first, the teachers at my school did a flashmob during the annual Christmas assembly. It ended up on the news even. Christmas 2010.
Here it is. The view where you see the left sides of everyone from the back-side is where I was filming from. I was in video classes for a couple years so I got to know my teacher really well. He got me, a friend of mine, my boyfriend, and a couple other random people to film it. It was kinda fun because we got to know about it when no one else knew.

Next is the student lipdub! It was coordinated by students and included all students (I think). I was in the little team in which my friend was the leader of (student council member and student body vice president, she had the authority to do it :P). I was in charge of a random hallway on the upper floor, and had to yell at people at random times to run to various places. Early 2011.
This is it. It was a lot of fun to make, and only took like two tries.

Okay so now we have the Staff Lipdub. Let me just say that they had an unfair advantage. Since they are the teachers and staff they are allowed to use all of the equipment, go into any room, and do it whenever they wanted to. For the student one, we could only do it right after school, and had limited amounts of people and things we could use. The teachers, because they had so much freedom, also made theirs like twice as long as ours. And, since the one doing the filming and editing and whatnot was the same teacher that had helped a little/watched us struggle with the student one, he knew what he was doing. Late 2011.

Happy viewing :P

Konami Code

So, if you haven't noticed, I have added a box to the side that tells of of the "Konami Code".
First of all, if you do not know what Konami is....... get out...now.... haha, jk.....
<.<
>.>
Anyway
(So, Konami is a videogame company.. this is their site)

The "Konami Code" has been used for many years in games to give players random bonuses...like extra lives ot whatever.
Since we live in the age of technology and blogs that have editable HTML code, we can put this code into our ...code.
(I could tell you exactly how I did it, but it's not too difficult to look it up for yourself on Google :P For me: Copy and Paste plus minor editing and... there you have it.)

In games this code is up up down down left right left right b a start. Since there is no "start" button on keyboards (typically), we use "Enter" instead.

So, try it here on my blog :)

PS: if you didn't know this already- this code also works on Facebook~!

Wonders of a Popular Search Engine

(AKA: things to do when you are bored!)

Google! Everyone's grandma and their dog knows how to use google and has used it at least once in their life. The people at Google like to fiddle around with programming, and include things that users (if they can find them) find amusing! They come in different shapes and sizes these easter eggs..

Currently- in the spirit of Christmas, or at least winter, type "let it snow" into google. Do you really want to defrost? Yeah..me neither..to bad though, you can't actually click on anything when it gets all foggy.

DO A BARREL ROLL- yeah type "do a barrel roll" into google. Self explanatory.

Not the same but... go to "thatsloco.com" it's 'Google Loco" and you can use it like regular google, just typing in funny symbols and stuff.

Googoth- another site, that is currently under maintenance. Used to look up dark and goth-y things... I guess...lol. "Googoth.com"

I have yet to try this one BUT- go to Picasa and "ctrl+shift+Y" repeat and apparently teddy bears will start appearing

"http://www.google.com/onceuponatime/mentalplex/" - year 2000 April fool's joke, was supposed to read your mind and predict what you were going to search for...or something

Go to your Gmail and to the spam folder....recipe with spam? check! (at the top part above the messages)

I'm sure there are other ones, but they are not readily available in my mind or on the interwebs at the moment. I will edit this if I find any more interesting ones (or not if I'm too lazy).

(Ed: Type "tilt" into google, and ...y'know... it tilts :P)

Things I use Google for?
-how to spell things
-dictionary (either directing me to an online dictionary, or just defining it for me after i type "[xyz] definition")
-actually searching things...
mostly it's the first two though, lol

Happy Googling!!

Google Search Me

So...apparently when you search this blog on Google you get the very beginning of the first post I posted. Yes I realize that I am a loser who searches up herself on Google....
Anywayyyys, so, if you look up "Mental Potpourri: Medley of Musings", or also probably "mindofjet.blogspot.com" or whatever, then you'd see under the title something along the lines of:

"5 days ago – Hello there, this is my first blog post on this...well...blog. I am not entirely sure what sorts of things will appear in future posts, but I guess we'll ..."

Yeeeaaaahhhhh....
So, I hope it changes, but since I don't expect a ton of traffic it doesn't matter anyways.

Shounen Manga That Look Llike Shoujo Manga

As I try and start this post, my dog is loudly barking at a squirrel from inside. Crazy animal.. ♥
Anyway... Hello!
Okay so first and foremost-
Manga: those japanese comic books that you read "backwards".
Note: The plural of "manga" is not "mangas"..its "manga"...there is no S at the end. ie- the plural of 'sheep' is not 'sheeps' it's still 'sheep'. (This bothers me way more than it should). 'Manga' is a Japanese word, and in Japanese there is no 's' added on to words when they become plural. If you want to add an 's' call them 'graphic novels' or something! Got it? Good!
Alright...anyways...
Shounen manga: manga typically directed toward a male audience, usually action, comedy, sports-related, etc
Shoujo manga:  manga typically directed toward females, usually complete with drama, romance, cute things, etc
Though, there is nothing wrong with guys reading shoujo manga, I'm just saying that it's directed at a female audience.
Most of you who've stumbled upon this post will know what these things are..but it was just to clarify.
So, the title translates in regular English to: Japanese comic books for boys that look like Japanese comic books for girls... got it?

Oddly enough, some of these types of manga are listed in my favourites. They amuse me because if you saw a guy reading one and didn't know that it was a shounen manga, you would think he was reading something girly. These manga are usually rated OT (16+) or M (18+). Reason being? they are a little pervy.
They have humour that guys would appreciate, including fanservice, and some action or violence. The main character is either a perv himself or ends up in compromising situations that make him look like a pervert (not to say that he doesn't enjoy then though ;P).
With my twisted sense of humour, I find these to be absolutely hilarious. The ones I've read anyways.
So, let me share some of these with you:

Pretty Face: an odd name for a manga for guys, but perfectly describes the story.
What's it about: it's about a guy named Masashi Rando, who is basically the most feared guy in school. He is in love with this chick from his school named Rina Kurimi. He takes a bus with her home from school one day to creep her, and not too long after she gets off the bus is in an accident and explodes into flames and such.
Rando wakes up a year later from a coma to find that he now has Rina's face! He had been horribly burned and disfigured from the accident, and the doctor had given Rando the face of the girl who's picture had been in his wallet. Rando's hair is blonde because the follicles had been damaged.
He has to now live looking exactly like the girl that he's in love with....and then he runs into her (oh no!) and it turns out that Rina has a twin sister who ran away to beauty school some years ago.
Not wanting to break his love's heart, he adopts the role of Yuna, Rina's twin sister.

That is basically what the story is about. It follows Rando around as he goes throughout life as a "girl", who can easy beat anyone up and tries to avoid compromising situations with his "sister" and her friends.
It makes me laugh.
It's about seven volumes long, and it's great.

This is the cover...you can see why I said it looks like a shoujo manga?

Another series that might fit this category is titled Mai Hime.
I just started this series today. I literally just bought the five volumes of it from someone off Craigslist about an hour ago, and I've finished the first volume already..lol.
Apparently it's based on an anime (and there's a videogame somewhere in there too, for PS2 I believe)...usually manga that come after the anime are terrible...but this one seems okay so far.
I'm not entirely sure what's happening in this series yet. It's about a guy named Yuuichi Tate or Take or something. He transfers to this school  called Fuka academy. There are a bunch of students, and some of them have superpowers for fighting off these weird monster bad-guy things called "orphans". What's-his-name is some sort of aide to two of these girls and can help them unleash their powers.
He also ends up in compromising situations when he has to live in the girls' dorm rooms after accidentally destroying his own room. (Why he doesn't just live with another guy...? Idk, the headmaster wants him to be close to these Hime girls)
So far it seems alright. I'll let you know what I think of it as I get through it.

Dog..seriously..stop barking at small and furry or featherd animals in the backyard.

Finals Are Overrrr!

Yay! I'm done my finals~! I need the break. I go back on the fifth of January...that's a Thursday...what the heck.
What do I plan to do over the break? I always have things I plan to do over breaks. This one isn't that long, but whatever. Usually during the summer I try and accomplish something during long breaks like summer...What do I usually get done? Nothing that I planned on doing, but I always end up doing something I hadn't thought of.
So, over Christmas break? Maybe I'll play some videogames? I was playing Fable during the summer, but since one of my brothers took over my file and accidentally played for about three hours...my guy looks completely different and I have the sword from the stone. Umm...anyway..
I just need to rest...and clean my room. Yeah yeah a typical thing to do (or being told to and then think about doing...)...but seriously. My room is an absolute mess. It's not dirty, it's just messy. I have clean clothes all over the place. I tried organizing some stuff, and my mom decided to dump a basket of clothes on top of that. So...mess.
And of course there's Christmas, but I'll get to that in another post.

Money Owns This Town

Storage Wars!
Started watching this show a couple of months ago... I don't remember if it was during summer or not...idk. Anyway, I am sort of addicted to this show. You start watching and you can't pull yourself away. They open a storage unit and OMG WHO'S GOING TO GET IT and then someone buys it and OMG WHAT'S IN IT......or something like that. I actually don't think like that, but that's what it feels like. It's the pull I tell ya.
If you've never heard of this show: it's about a bunch of people- the regulars being Berry, Jerrod and Brandi, Dave, and Darrell. They go, usually all of them, to storage auctions in random places throughout the US. The places usually are more in the Southern states(?). They seem to always be wearing cooler clothes anyway.
They bid on storage units that have been abandoned for more than three months. Highest bidder gets the locker..duh. Then they go through the units and look for random valuable and interesting things that they can sell for big bucks. This is one of the more interesting parts of the show, because at least one person gets something really cool. Cool? cool like antique guns, coins, sports memorabilia, crystals, portable spittoon, a bloodletting device, mini grand piano replica...yeah, cool stuff.

I know I'm not doing this show justice, so just go watch it.

Do it.
For me it's on A&E...I have no idea what that's supposed to stand for. It's also on the History channel(?) and OLN...which I think is actually a channel from Chicago..which is weird because I live on the West Coast in Canada. Lol...

http://www.aetv.com/storage-wars

I think it's actually an A&E show, it's also fairly new. (From 2010 apparently?)
There are repeats on all the time, so I've seen 90% of the episodes at least four times. There are new episodes on Tuesdays....OMG IT'S TUESDAY.... ahem. There'll be a new episode on tonight then :D

You've Won!

An interesting way to start of my day... just a few minutes ago I got off the phone with people claiming that I'd won a travel package that included things like Disney Land passes, a Bahamas cruise, and a stay at a beach resort somewhere in Florida. I was sceptical from the beginning, because I'm not an idiot, but since I'd entered a bunch of random contest things in the summer I figured I might as well listen. When he "Richardo" started telling me about how I had seven days free for a rental car I was wondering why he hadn't asked how old I was. Aso, he said that I would have to provide my own travel down there. Um okaaaay.
They told me that I would have my package sent over email once I'd gotten a "confirmation number". Okay fine. But, when he started asking for my credit card number I was like "Okay look, I'm not giving you my credit card number". I told him that I wanted some sort of proof that the company was legit, or if he would just send me the info and I could give the number to him later (This was now another guy named "Charles" or something). He just kept saying "everything will be guaranteed through your visa" and "now, tell me the numbers in groups of four" and such. I asked him what the company was called and "RCI Resorts and Cruises International" was what I got, though he wouldn't give me a website address. When he wouldn't give me the address for their "site" I just decided to hang up.
Morons. They of course called back. Lol, my mom picked up the phone and when they asked for me she said "No, I'm her mother, and she is not allowed to travel alone". Technically, they had said that it was a trip for two-ish and that my boyfriend could come, details details.
Now, not all phone calls about winning things are illegitimate, but if you haven't signed up for something, there's a good chance that it's just a scam.
I can say this because I actually did win something! Like I said, during the summer I entered a bunch of contests/sweepstakes blah blah blah. But, in...hm...September? my mom got a call while I was on the bus to school. They got her to answer a "skill testing question" (always a good sign), which was some math problem that you have to answer un-aided. (technically, even if you get it wrong they're supped to 'help' you with the answer...lol.) The reason that they do skill-testing questions is because if they give out free money it's considered a 'lottery', which falls under different rules and cannot be won by anyone underage.
I should probably tell you what I won eh? Lol. I won a $1000.00 back to school shopping spree from West 49. Even better, it was in the form of a gift card! which I didn't know until it arrived at my doorstep in mid October.
I don't shop like...ever, and when I do it's at thrift stores (I'll probably write about my love of thrift stores at another time). Anyway, I don't usually shop at stores like this. And, surprise surprise, they have decent clothing for females! I used this money to buy some Christmas presents too. Like, shoes for my brothers, a hoodie for my mom, etc. Each about eighty bucks, which, when it's free money..heck!
I currently have about $100 left on the card. The stuff there is kind of expensive and right now I'm buying mostly outerwear (which is more pricey anyway).
I might as well say what I bought with this money: let me think...
Two pull-over hoodies, a teeshirt (it was on sale, lol), a strapless shirt thing, a light jacket thing, an actual jacket, a weird sweater that zips up, a cardigan-y type sweater, a dress (that i might return), the things I bought for other people for Christmas, and if there's anything else...I don't remember...
At the West 49 stores that I go to, they all treat me like a VIP, it's kind of funny. They also all say "I wish I could win $1000 to somewhere". Haha..yeah
So...boredom in the summer paid off I guess!

If you don't enter you can't win!

Finals

I am just finishing up my first semester/term of university and have my last finals this week...yaaaaay.. Actually I only have three finals in total, one of my classes didn't have one for some reason (no complaints here). I don't really get university finals, the first one I had was just like a second midterm, only covering the second half of the semester. The next one is kinda like that too, but my last one is just my forth 'novel exam'. It's kind of stupid because my first exam, which was for criminology, was the only one that really required any studying, and it was only three days after my last class.

I have a final tomorrow, and its going to be a complete joke. I have to basically do half of it at home first and the rest of it is more or less opinion and intelligent guessing. I have to do an assignment (sorta) where I have to do "interactive reading" with the textbook, then type up what I thought about it...yeah. and the other thing I have to go it image comparison. I can't physically bring that part into the exam with me, but I'm still supposed to do all of the brainstorming and whatnot for it. I could look up all the info on the web and just memorize it...I have no idea what my prof was thinking...

Since classes are over I have very little, if any, motivation to study. I keep having to tell myself that I'm not done quite yet...but my brain and body are both moving to holiday mode..

I feel like we are given these breaks so we can recover from all of this end of the semester stress....so we can start all over again! Not that I'm ungrateful though...having no break would kinda suck..

To all the rest of people who still have finals: good luck~~

even though most of you are probably done already >.<

Good Evening~~

Hello there, this is my first blog post on this...well...blog.
I am not entirely sure what sorts of things will appear in future posts, but I guess we'll see!
I am not planning on writing on anything specifically....as the title would suggest, it is more miscellaneous.
I am going to say that I would not be surprised if everything from transit experiences to vocabulary to anime.
I know that if I want to get more viewers or readers or whatever, it is a better idea to talk about one topic. Well, I don't really care much about how many people read this. If anyone reads my ramblings and they enjoy it then that's great :) But, if they go on here and find me boring...meh, to each his own.
Have a good rest of the---whatever the time of day it is that you are reading this~!
